Gustav Mahler

Mahler: Symphony No. 9; Kindertotenlieder

HIGHLIGHT OF THE DISCS:
Symphony No. 9 in D Major (1910)

Few people realize that Horenstein actually did 2 performances of Mahler’s ninth symphony durring 1966. One of which was recorded in stereo soound and has been reissued onto CD by BBC Legends and is available on Amazon. The other was recorded in mono sound and was breifly issued onto CD by Music & Arts, but then it went out of print. It’s a shame since this is such an unforgettable performance.

[1966 performance / Jascha Horenstein / London Symphony Orchestra / Music & Arts / 235]
